Mind you, it’s an opinion piece, but the headline is misleading. What described is not physical (i.e., brains) but psychological. It’s our sense of self and our place as social beings that’s being ruined.
What’s interesting is much of what’s described maps to NPD(Narcissistic Personality Disorder). That is, too little accountability, too little empathy… a world where I am the center all the time. Etc. The irony of NPD is that it’s actually a cover for low self esteem / low self worth.
But that makes sense in the sense that we have fewer and fewer shared experiences. Face to screen is completely “personalized”. Why wouldn’t I believe it’s all about me? And why would I believe in me when when so much of my online experience exposes me to my inadequacies?
whoa there, our brains are by definition niether physical nor some "phenominon" "psychology/thought" cutts pathways into our brains, memorys are physicaly encoded, and our "psycological" profiles define what we do physicaly....walk,run, swim, huddle on chair blankfaced into a phone
perhaps not quite as physical as a bone saw and a scalple, but if you dont do basic math in your head, it's also not just a choice get a job as a mathemetician either
if someone makes it past there mid 20's without engaging in any activity, say socialising or athletic activities, then thats it for any chance to shine
it's not called doom scrolling for nothing, and a large percentage will readily express a sentiment strait out of "waiting for the barbarians".....the knowlege that this is horrible, but it will take something external to break us out of it, and secret wish for that to happen, soon
A) The scale. It’s not a small number seeing the cave paintings
B) It’s who pulling to strings. Behind every screen based experience is some Big Inc doing all it can to influence you in way that often are not in your best interest.
I recommend reading “Stand out of our light” and if you have the time “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism “. Cave paintings would be welcomed compared to what is effectively psychologically warfare.
Every time I see a 3-5 year old in a stroller on the subway staring at a phone their parent passed them, or worse, has dedicated to the child's entertainment (stroller mount included), my heart breaks a little more - though when my own preschooler won't stay in his seat and insists on standing while the train's in motion (his balance is really good, but oh, the looks I get), I'm a little tempted.
Don’t worry, AI will fix this!

“the cave paintings of nudes are corrupting the neanderthal youth”
and yet - somehow we always survive.
Who is this "we" who always survive? 99% of humans went extinct, historians say.
Your snarkiness aside, what’s different is:
A) The scale. It’s not a small number seeing the cave paintings
B) It’s who pulling to strings. Behind every screen based experience is some Big Inc doing all it can to influence you in way that often are not in your best interest.

There is also a massive emerging class difference between the iPad kids and the children of the rich.
